On November 7-9, in Samarkand, the State Forestry Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized a round table on topic "The potential of developing transboundary cooperation in specially protected natural areas between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan". Responsible organizations and experts from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan participated to the event.
The round table was organized with the support of the regional programme “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land Use in Central Asia”, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German federal enterprise for international cooperation) on behalf of German government.
Definition of criteria for transboundary cooperation, amendments to the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Committees of Ecology of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, issues of biodiversity conservation, interaction of protected areas with nearby households and strengthening of close cooperation with other partners, experience exchange and coordination of management actions were discussed during the round table.
